Description

Le Grand Bercail is a luxurious resort house located in La Malbaie in the Charlevoix region. (1h30 from Quebec City) Nestled in the heart of a breathtaking landscape, this villa gives the impression of being suspended between heaven and earth, with the Saint-Laurent River stretching as far as the eye can see. The architect knew how to take advantage of the unique topography of the region to create a house that seems to merge with its surroundings. *A maximum of 12 adults can sleep in the chalet. 4 capsule beds designed for children allow a total of 16 people (12 adults and 4 children).

Your accomodation
November 2021. The architects visit the luxurious rental houses in this rocky cape located above the Malbaie in Charlevoix. Overhangs, glass walls, suspended terraces, garden roofs and built-in residences: architect houses are brimming with creativity. How to build a rental villa that blends naturally with these magnificent steep landscapes of Charlevoix? How can you imagine a warm environment that benefits families while limiting your carbon footprint? With its large gallery opening onto the river and its majestic tin roof, the Grand Bercail borders on timelessness. A Quebec house of the new times, it comforts as much as it surprises. Established to take advantage of solar gains in winter and increase the number of views in all seasons, it uses its large roof overhangs to reduce overheating during heat waves. Its walls, its roof and its hyper-insulated glazing (40% more than required) and its excellent airtightness (0.35 CAH) make it a house that stays cool in summer and warm in winter. The delicacy of its location between the trees and its palette inspired by boreal tones give the impression that it has always existed. Designed to accommodate several families, the space is organized around a festive heart forming a double height open to the living room and the landscape. In the background, the kitchen offers an overview in addition to the conveniences of use. The living room nestles between a warm clay brick wall on the bedroom side and a glazed wooden partition on the dining room side. Away to celebrate better, the guests sitting at the table enjoy the double view of La Malbaie on the right and the river in front. The promenade leads in a row to the veranda, the gallery and the spa, then to the blue depth of the horizon. The rooms grouped into two parent/child clusters are located in a separate wing near the entrance. Served by a sumptuous Douglas fir staircase flanked by a carved wooden handrail, the mezzanine was designed as another den in which to have fun. It gives access to a bedroom-office hidden in the attic that allows you to retreat out of time. At the center of the gable wall, an impressive eight-foot-diameter oculus filters the cold light of the river and bathes much of the interior. Accessible from a closed staircase near the entrance, the ground floor offers a paradise for the youngest with its small dormitory and its playground open to the woods. As much for the construction techniques as for the quality of its finishes, the house has benefited from the expertise of passionate local artisans; carpenters, carpenters, tinsmiths, cabinetmakers, tilers and seamstresses have contributed to the elegance of this achievement. Wooden structures, omnipresent outside and inside, provide a very natural and authentic warmth to the whole. Despite its recent construction, the house gives the impression of having always been part of this beautiful part of the country. Have a nice stay at the Grand Bercail de Charlevoix!
